Numbers are still down on pre-pandemic levels for this long-established race in the Perthshire highlands with a small field of only 24 toeing the start line on Saturday. A fierce headwind for much of the route kept the race records safe for another year but nonetheless Inverclyde’s Andrew Douglas made the summit in a decent time of 36:30 in what I hope was a good tester for the uphill race in next week’s World Mountain & Trail Running Champs in Austria – good luck Andrew! Rory Abernethy (Ochils) had a splendid run to finish less than a minute behind & third place was taken by U20 Angus Wright of Team East Lothian AC.
First female home was Hanna McInally of Strathern Harriers in 50:19, followed by Megan Wright (HBT) & Catherine Matthews (Dundee Hawkhill). Congratulations to all runners – we look forward to welcoming you again next year.
Thanks to all the race crew (especially the summit timekeepers), to the Persie Distillery for prizes & to the Dalmunzie Estate for continuing to support this unique race.
